Mika has a decade of extensive experience in energy sector innovation, project development, and new business creation. Prior to Polarnode, Mika played a key role at Ilmatar, leading commercialization and new business development efforts, with a strong focus on demand-side projects such as hydrogen, Power-to-X, and data centers. Mika has been instrumental in initiating development business in energy intensive industries and shaping IPP commercial strategies for 24/7 PPAs and long-duration energy storage. Earlier in his career, he contributed to energy innovation, strategic asset management and corporate strategy at Caruna, largest DSO in Finland.
Pyry has a decade of experience from investment banking and corporate finance. In his last role prior to joining Polarnode, he led Ilmatar’s corporate finance team where he oversaw Ilmatar’s equity and debt transactions. Before Ilmatar Pyry worked at MCF Corporate Finance, an M&A advisor, in London and Helsinki. Pyry has extensive experience from executing and managing processes across different capital instruments including project finance, junior debt, convertible bonds, equity raises and M&A.
As Head of Technology, Lauri develops Polarnode’s data center design and service offering, ensuring the company delivers scalable, sustainable, and reliable infrastructure solutions. He brings over two decades of experience in mission-critical infrastructure and large-scale data centers, strengthening Polarnode’s technical expertise and growth ambitions.
Before joining Polarnode, Lauri was part of UpCloud’s executive leadership team (2023–2025), where he oversaw service delivery for 13 global data center locations. From 2016 to 2023, he held several leadership positions in Google’s Data Center organization, including leading a major hyperscale campus in Hamina with six data centers and approximately 400 daily employees. Earlier in his career, Lauri built nearly 15 years of experience at ABB, where he held several leadership roles including leading the Service business in the Power Systems Division.
With a background in electrical engineering, Lauri has also specialized in strategic leadership and business management, holding an Entrepreneurial MBA from the University of Vaasa and a BBA from South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences.
As the Head of Project Development, Pietari manages pre-screening, permitting and developing Polarnode’s data center project portfolio. Having worked with project development since 2019, Pietari is seasoned professional in working with large-scale infrastructure development projects.
Before joining Polarnode, Pietari worked as a Project Development Manager at ib vogt and Ilmatar Energy between 2022-2025. Prior to his career in project development, Pietari was involved in the demerger and sale of the largest wind power portfolio of its time at St1.
Pietari has an M.Sc in Finance and M.Sc Industrial Engineering from the University of Lappeenranta.
Antti has over a decade of experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and early-stage project development. Before joining Polarnode, he served as Project Manager at the Finnish Hydrogen Valley Association, where he supported regional collaboration and development initiatives. Since 2018, Antti has also worked in business development at Celere Investments. His background includes experience in onshore wind project support at Tuulisaimaa and technical roles at Stora Enso. Antti brings strong executional capabilities and a structured approach to managing complex project environments.
Ante brings extensive experience in business and sales development, team development, organizational development and leading sales teams globally. His background in sales and marketing combined with a high level of energy makes him a key addition to our team as we continue to scale Polarnode’s project portfolio across Finland and Nordics.
Joonas has over eight years of hands-on experience in infrastructure investments, M&A and capital raising across energy and real estate.
As Investment Manager at Polarnode, Joonas focuses on transaction work and strategy development to support Polarnode’s growth and development in the data centre value chain.
As a Project Manager, Kalle manages the development and permitting and of Polarnode’s data center projects. He specializes in early-stage site development zoning, and environmental impact assessments, ensuring that projects progress systematically through complex regulatory frameworks.
Before joining Polarnode, Kalle spent five years as a Project Manager at ABO Energy where he successfully developed several large-scale onshore wind development projects. In his career in renewable energy, he has gained extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, building local trust, and utilizing advanced GIS analysis for data-driven project planning.
Kalle has a MSc degree in Forest Science from the University of Helsinki.
Mikko has over two decades of experience from the intersection from energy industry and entrepreneurship. Through his career he has founded multiple companies such as Ilmatar, RE-Tech, Infratiera and Polarnode.
Mikko has worked on many T&D and Renewable Energy projects and was also heavily involved in building the first complete TCM service portfolio in Finland, which established Ilmatar as a renowned service provider amongst international wind farm owners and investors. Before this, Mikko worked on the design aspect of the construction of the Latamäki project in Luhanka, Finland’s first non-recourse project finance wind farm. He also acted as the project director and BOP EPC lead for Piiparinmäki 211 MW onshore wind project during 2019-2022. In addition to the landmark wind project Mikko also ran Ilmatars construction activities between 2012 and 2023.
At Polarnode, Mikko uses his vast knowledge of project management, construction and projects to develop Polarnode’s project portfolio and network.
Kalle has nearly 20 years of experience in developing, financing and leading growth companies. In this time, he has also led the formation and/or transformation of several companies and investment vehicles, while helping to raise the associated capital from private and public markets.
In addition to having co-founded Polarnode in 2024, he is the co-founder of Ilmatar which is a leading renewables IPP. Kalle was Ilmatar’s CEO from the founding of the company in 2011 until 2016 when he became company Chairman. During his time as CEO, he managed the early and mid-stage growth of the company. He was also key in bringing the best international wind industry practices and several leading renewables financiers to Finland.
Kalle graduated with a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Vaasa in 2002. He has since completed other studies for his degree at Harvard University and at Institut Supérieur du Commerce in Paris. In 2010 he completed Executive Program for Growing Companies, at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, designed for executives in high growth companies.
At Polarnode, Kalle works with fundraising and business development where he has extensive experience from areas such as renewables, PPAs and M&A.
Katja Koponen has held leadership and business development roles in the energy sector for more than a decade. She currently serves as Chief Business Development Officer and a member of the Executive Management Team at Suur-Savon Sähkö Oy. Prior to joining Suur-Savon Sähkö, Katja worked as Business Development Director at Ilmatar and as Development Manager in the Innovation Team at Caruna, Finland’s largest distribution system operator.
In addition to her role at Polarnode, Katja serves on the boards of Solarigo Oy, Suomen Voimaverkot Oy, and Lumme Energia. She is also a member of TSO Fingrid’s Electricity Market Committee.
Katja possesses extensive expertise in Finnish and Nordic electricity markets and related legislation. She has contributed to the development of energy market regulation serving as a member of the working group responsible for amendments to Finland’s Electricity Market Act.
Before transitioning to the energy industry, Katja spent 15 years in the technology sector as an entrepreneur and owner of ST-Koneistus Oy.

Ville has over 25 years of experience as an attorney and specializes in corporate M&A and other transactions, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He is currently a partner at Krogerus Attorneys Ltd., one of Finland’s leading law firms. Ville has been recognized as one of the industry’s leading experts for several consecutive years by international industry rating organizations.
Throughout his long career, Ville has gained extensive experience in various types of M&A transactions, equity financing arrangements, joint ventures, greenfield projects, and related contract negotiations, covering, among others, onshore and offshore wind power, solar power, energy storage, P2X projects, and data centers. He regularly acts as a strategic advisor to both international and domestic investors, financiers, project developers, and other energy sector players – offering not only legal expertise but also a broad commercial and strategic perspective on assignments and industry development.
Ville earned his Master of Laws degree from the University of Helsinki in 1999 and has also studied in France. He is a member of the Finnish Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the International Project Finance Association. Ville is fluent in Finnish and English and also speaks Swedish and French.
At Polarnode, in addition to his legal expertise, Ville brings to the Board his commercial and strategic insight -developed through years of experience- to the development and expansion of the company’s business.
