Polarnode prepares new data center project in Kuopio

The planned Mustakorpi data center in Kuopio would have a capacity of approximately 50 MW in its first phase, with the local electrical grid enabling expansion into a campus of up to 250 MW. The project would be located on land owned by the City of Kuopio, between Hiltulanlahti and Pellesmäki. During the reservation period, the project will be prepared for a future investment decision. The aim is to have the first phase construction-ready during 2027.

“Kuopio offers us strong conditions for data center operations. The Mustakorpi area is extensive, and the grid connections allow for significant capacity. We see the Kuopio project as an important part of Polarnode’s growth into a data center operator,” says Mikko Toivanen, Chairman of the Board of Polarnode.

Polarnode is a fully Finnish-owned developer, builder, and operator of data centers. The company aims to establish Finland as a competitive and sustainable hub for data center business in Europe and to ensure that the value created by the industry remains firmly within the domestic ecosystem.

In addition to the planned Kuopio project, Polarnode is developing data center projects in Pori, Lappeenranta, and Nokia.
