The project marks a new expansion for the company in Northern Finland and extends Polarnode’s project development activities further north than before.
The Keminmaa data center project creates the opportunity to develop a large scale, phased data center campus in the area. Planning details will be refined as the zoning process and environmental impact assessment progress, ensuring the project’s feasibility and compatibility with the surrounding environment and land use.
“Keminmaa is located at a highly strategic junction for Northern Finland. The region’s climate, power grid, industrial foundation, and location in the heart of Sea Lapland create strong conditions for next generation data center development,” says Mikko Toivanen, chairman of the board at Polarnode.
Polarnode will carry out the planning phase of the project in close cooperation with authorities, the Municipality of Keminmaa, and other key stakeholders. The objective of the zoning process and environmental impact assessment is to ensure the project’s land use, technical, and environmental viability before any potential investment decisions are made.
The project area offers strong foundations for scalable data center development. Planning includes evaluating the feasibility of the power grid connection, energy integrations, and infrastructure development as part of a broader regional ecosystem.
When realized, the project will strengthen the investment environment of Keminmaa and the Sea Lapland region while supporting employment and attracting new digital and industrial operations to the area.
