Finnish data center company Polarnode will begin pre-construction works for the Lappeenranta data center project in Pajarila on 13 May. Polarnode has developed the project from its early stages and is now responsible for delivering the pre-construction works for Nebius.
Nebius owns the project and acts as the client for the works. Polarnode continues to support Nebius in implementation readiness and permitting, while also taking an active role in the project’s delivery as a provider of construction services. The role reflects Polarnode’s broader ambition to help data center customers move faster from site identification and development into construction-ready execution.
Polarnode’s model is built around reducing complexity in large-scale data center projects. By combining local market knowledge, permitting expertise, infrastructure development and now construction delivery capabilities, the company aims to shorten the path from early-stage project development to shovel-ready and buildable sites.
“The start of the pre-construction works in Lappeenranta is an important milestone for Polarnode. We have been responsible for the project from its early development phase, and we are now also involved in its physical delivery. This demonstrates that Polarnode is not only a developer, but a partner capable of moving complex data center projects forward with speed and certainty. It is great to help deliver this project with Finnish expertise and together with our experienced partners,” says Mikko Toivanen, Chairman of the Board, Polarnode.
Polarnode is responsible for the delivery of the pre-construction works. The company’s main partner in the works is Finnish company Louhintahiekka Oy, an experienced infrastructure contractor for data center projects. Polarnode also places strong emphasis on using Finnish expertise and involving local companies whenever possible.
“We want major data center investments to create value in Finland and in the regions where they are built. For us, successful delivery means combining international-scale customer needs with strong Finnish execution capability and local know-how. The Lappeenranta project is a good example of how these elements can come together,” says Lauri Ikonen, Head of Technology, Polarnode.
The project has also progressed in other key workstreams. The electrical substation will be built by Caverion. The substation is a critical part of the campus infrastructure and supports the project’s progression toward the next phases of delivery.
The pre-construction works form the basis for the following construction phases of the data center campus. Polarnode will carry out the works safely, systematically and with consideration for the surrounding area.
